Updated Rules
Welcome to GH RP! Here are some rules and guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask the admin.
1. Respect each other. No drama, please. If there's an issue come to the admin.
2. We'll brainstorm major storylines in the cbox or via PM, but minor things affecting your character you don't need to ask. So, if I'm not here and say you want Patrick and Emma to have lunch at Kelly's, you don't need permission. Or say if Lila Rae is pregnant, and you want her to tell the father, you don't need permission. However, if you want Trina to kill Spencer (which I wouldn't allow lol), then you need permission from the admin and the person playing Spencer. In fact, any death needs to be run by the admin.
If we know major scenes that need to be done and I'm not here, but you know Patrick and Emma are in that major scene, go ahead and do the scene.
3. You must be able to type readable English. I'm not concerned about grammar or anything, it just has to be readable and understood. But make clear what's dialogue and what is action.
The way I do it is like this: *Willow walks into the room* Hi, Michael. How are you?
The action is in asterisks and the dialogue is on its own.
However, you can write it prose-style with the dialogue in quotations and the action on its own if you prefer:
Willow walks into the room. "Hi, Michael. How are you?"
As long as we can tell the difference between action and dialogue, I'm happy whichever way you write it. Present tense is preferable, but I'm not going to kick you out if you slipped up and did past tense.
4. You are in control of your character(s) only (and if your character has a baby, you control the baby too along with the co-parent). For example, if I'm playing Carly and I'm in a scene with Michael, I cannot say that Michael walks into the room. I can say Carly is waiting for Michael to arrive, but I cannot control Michael's actions, even minor ones. The exception is if another character is needed for plot purposes and the role player is not available BUT gives permission ahead of time for someone else to control their character's actions in that scene without making any major changes to the character. But once the scene is over, they lose control of the other person's character until they get permission again. And another exception is if it is agreed upon ahead of time that one role player can say two characters walk in together including the other role player’s character.
5. No roleplaying babies. The child has to be at least two years old before someone can play them. I find rp babies very annoying. They should at least be able to walk and talk in full sentences. So, until then, the parents of the baby are in control of the baby's actions from the parent accounts. Anyone else (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) need permission from one of the parents to control the baby in a scene. Once the child turns or is aged to two, then someone can play the child from an account they make for the child. If you would like to play a child in the future when they turn two, let me know and I will put the baby on hold for you.
6. No SORAS'ing without the admin's and the parents of the child's agreement. The person playing the child, the people playing the parents, and the admin have to agree before ageing the child.
7. Any major changes for the child must be agreed on by the parents and if it's really huge the admin has to agree too. So, if the parents aren't together then both parents and the child have to agree where the child lives, for example, without having to run by the admin. If you want advice on something like that though, I'm happy to help, but you don't need permission from me. However, if you want the child to get cancer or kidnapped or killed, then run by the admin. There may be times where I'm playing one of the parents, so in that case you'd need my permission too.
8. Teenagers up until age 18 will have a little more freedom than children, but not as much freedom as an adult. For example, the teenager can make final decisions on where he/she lives without permission, but it should be at least discussed with the people playing the parents. The teenager can decide who they date but doesn't mean both parents will approve of who they date, that is up to the parents. If you want the teenager you're playing to be a serial killer, the parents and the admin need to be in agreement. And if the teenager wants to be killed off, the parents and the admin have to approve. However, if you want the teenager to be a brat or an up-standing citizen, that is up to the person playing the teenager. Just make it believable. I would suggest though to keep in mind how the parents have raised him/her to decide how rebellious/non-rebellious the teenager is so it makes sense. However, if you want a teen pregnancy the admin has to agree and so do the parents.
9. No large time jumping without admin approval. The admin has to agree before a major time jump. However, we can say we're rping scenes for a specific month and we can do a Thursday scene before Wednesday's, for example, if someone isn't free to finish a scene on Wednesday for example. Otherwise, we'll probably get stuck since no one is available to rp 24/7. I'm more talking about big time jumps. So, we'll say we can't jump ahead more than a month in the timeline until all scenes are complete and the admin announces the time jump.
10. Both the father and mother have to agree on a woman being pregnant. I'd also like to make a cap on how many times one character gets pregnant. So, you don't need the admin's permission to get pregnant, unless say, you go past three pregnancies. But you need admin permission if you want to speed up a character's pregnancy. And if you want a teen pregnancy the admin has to agree and so do the parents of each teen parent.
11. Make sure your username is your character's full name (first name and last name required, middle name is optional). And your avatar must be a picture or gif of your character. You can edit these in the settings. Let me know if you'd like me to walk you through it or I can even go in and edit your profile myself from an admin account.
12. Original characters must be admin-approved and supporting characters to the canon characters. They must not be the main focus and I don't want too many of them. Unless say a villain needs some random goons or something, but they wouldn't take over. Most babies born in the rp would technically be OCs as well, but I would count them in a different category to other OCs.
13. Crossover characters must be admin-approved. We have brought in a few characters from other soaps, but I don’t want this to get out of control because we already have plenty of characters on GH to keep up with. Most cross-over characters will be minor characters supporting the GH characters. We are bringing in the Laverys from AMC because we will be making Ryan Lavery Sasha’s father. The Laverys are already connected to GH through Duke Lavery so I’m allowing this. But I still would like them to be supporting to the canon GH characters.
14. **I've had to update this rule in order to fill in characters. So, we're going to try to avoid playing immediate family members, but it's impossible sometimes. I'll just say it has to be admin-approved if you play someone in your character's immediate family. The Scorpio family has become one of the main families in GH and April and I have played them for so long, we probably won’t give up those characters, so that’s one example**. So, don't play your own love interest, your own sibling, your own child, your own parent. You can however play your own grandparent, your own grandchild, your own aunt/uncle/nephew/niece, your own cousin, or your own stepchild if you didn't raise them from a young age. This would be my preference. If, however, we don't get enough members, I will need to tweak this. But at least for now, no immediate relations. At least skip a generation or not be in the immediate family.
15. No graphical love scenes. You may have characters kiss, hold hands, hug, put their arms around each other, stuff like that. Any further, simply just say *they make love* then continue after the love scene.
16. When there are three or more characters in one scene, decide at the beginning of the scene what the posting order will be. That way no one gets confused as to when they should post and it keeps it organized. Say if Carly, Michael, and Josslyn are in a scene, discuss in the CBox what the order will be. For example:
1. Michael
2. Carly
3. Josslyn
17. I am huge on character development. I like it to be believable. For the most part you can take your character in the direction you’d like. IF, however, it doesn’t make sense or your character isn’t believable, I will step in and say something.
a) DON’T make your character omniscient. This means don’t have them knowing things they wouldn’t know. Just because you as the role player have a broader knowledge of what has happened in other scenes or know what will happen in the future through our brainstorming, that doesn’t mean your character will know this information. And especially if they weren't directly involved in something happening, they wouldn't know more than someone who was more involved, so don't have them preaching to the character who was more involved.
b) The character should start off how they are on the show, BUT the direction you take your character in the rp is how the character’s personality, status, good vs villain etc. is in the rp. So, if you portray your character as having bad behaviour and hurting people, just because they are a hero on the show that does not mean they are automatically a hero in the rp. And vice versa, if they are a villain on the show but go through redemption in the rp, they are no longer a villain in the rp. How they’ve been acting in the rp trumps how they are on the show. If, however, you want them to revert to how they are on the show and/or have them change their ways, we will not magically erase what has already happened in the rp. It has to be believable. The new villain character will have to go through character growth in order to become a good character again, it will not be an easy fix. And the good character will have to go through a process to become evil again—show us how they are torn and how they get to that place again. It won't be automatic. If you try to make it automatic, I will say something.
c) Show, don’t tell. If your character has been through a lot of trauma, show us that they are traumatized through their behaviour, choices, etc. Don’t have them just talk about how traumatized they are. That is not believable.
d) Get into your character’s head. Don’t use all of your characters to pump your other characters. For example, if I play Nina and Mac, but Nina stabs Felicia in the back, I shouldn’t have Mac going overboard to defend Nina’s action. Mac loves Felicia and would be on her side. Or say I play Olivia and Sam, but Dante and Sam are going through a breakup, I shouldn’t have Olivia praising Sam to Dante, Olivia should be focused on comforting Dante.
e) I am always happy to help in this area. And you can not change what happened with your characters in previous storylines without admin-approval. Storylines that happened months ago affect more than just your character, so it's not fair if you just decide to retcon something your character did in the rp. This has to be admin-approved.
18. I understand that real life always comes first and that things come up. We typically rp between 8:00pm and midnight EST, but anyone can rp at anytime of the day, but most of the rp happens in the evenings. I ask that everyone commit to one night minimum a week. April and I are on every night except when something comes up, so you should always have someone to rp with if you come on in the evening.
I understand every week will be different for everyone, so all I ask is that you communicate in the cbox or PM my Esme account (the account I’m on most) or message me on Facebook if I have you on there if you can’t be on that week.
If a role player is MIA for three weeks without communicating about it, then your character(s) will automatically become shareable to keep the storylines progressing.
If a role player is MIA for two months or more without communicating about it, then you will be at risk of losing your character. You will still be welcomed back, you just won’t be guaranteed to have your character when you come back.
If I notice you delete your character accounts without saying anything, then that means you automatically forfeit your characters.
None of this is meant to come across as mean. Emergencies come up and life gets busy. This is only to keep the rp fun for those who are active and to prevent getting stuck in the storylines. We are a very active group and we keep the storylines moving along.
*I will add and change rules as needed, but I won't do it without telling all members. Please let me know that you have read these rules and if you have questions or need clarification.*
