If you haven't done any scenes with Ian yet, I'm still interested in playing him. I know you read the chapter of my fanfic where "Slade" is introduced. Yes, Slade is indeed Ian Slater.
In my fanfic, I've SORASed him to be a few years older than Esme but still close enough in age so that it isn't creepy (on AMC he was born in 2007 so in my fanfic I've changed it to 1997, and on the show I believe Esme is supposed to have been born in 2001). He has good relationships with Kendall and Spike (and Emma too, though I know they're not blood relatives) as well as Bianca, Miranda and Gabi, but absolutely hates Zach for choosing his casino business over his family, which caused Kendall to divorce him, which took a huge toll on her health due to her heart transplant. At some point, he learns that his father's name was Alexander Cambias Jr., and erroneously believes Alex Jr. and Zach Slater to be two separate people. He does a DNA test and discovers he has an older half-brother, Ethan, who had faked his death and has moved back to the UK and also wants nothing to do with Zach. Ethan has no desire to have a relationship with anyone on Zach's side of the family, since Zach refused to acknowledge him as his son, but tells Ian about Alexander Cambias Sr. (the Satin Slayer), who is in prison. He doesn't tell Ian the reason why he's in prison and warns him that he's making a mistake. Ian goes back to the US, visits Alexander Sr. in prison, who tells him that Alex Jr. and Zach are indeed the same person, and that Zach is dead to him. Ian tells Alexander that he's there to make it up to him, and helps him escape from prison.
He feels guilty because after he helped Alexander escape, Alexander went after Miranda with the intent of killing her to "posthumously punish" Michael Cambias for r ping Bianca. Ian set up a trap by arranging a meetup with Miranda, telling Alexander where they were going to be, knocking Alexander out right as he was about to inject Miranda with the same drug he used to kill all his other victims, then called the police and had Alexander arrested and sent back to prison. He never was prosecuted for helping Alex Sr. escape, as the police never that he was the one who helped him, and instead hailed him as a hero. Miranda and Bianca were beyond furious as Miranda didn't know that it was supposed to be a trap for Alexander, and weren't sure if they'd be able to forgive him for it, but they eventually did. Ian nonetheless felt extremely guilty about this and as a result has kept his distance from his family, only seeing them on special occasions. I also envision that, after he erroneously believed Alexander Cambias Jr. and Zach Slater to be two separate people, he legally changed his name to Alexander Cambias III, but now that he knows what a monster Alexander Sr. is, he isn't sure what to call himself anymore, which is why he now goes by "Slade" (aside from it being his stage name). So that's why he's turned to music and, in great contrast to Erica (whom I envision he isn't close to but doesn't necessarily have a bad relationship with) and her glamorous lifestyle, has opted for a simple life as a traveling musician, and is on the road a lot, and is somewhat quirky. He's I guess what one would call a "black sheep".
He can relate to Esme due to the stigma of having a close relative who's a serial killer (not to mention two r pists, Michael Cambias and Kendall's father Richard Fields) and for trying to establish a bond with said relative in hopes of a better lifestyle only to be taken advantage of by them. And the reason why he knows Selina Wu and Oz Haggerty is due to Selina at one point being involved with Zach's casino business, and through her, he got to know Oz Haggerty. Initially he enjoyed Oz's smuggling various stuff but decided to keep his distance from Oz when Oz started making Ian be a go-between for him and Zach, and asking more and more favors from him, hence why he's glad that Oz is dead. I can't say anything more without giving away spoilers for my fanfic, but that's the gist of his backstory. All of these are hinted at in the chapter of my fanfic that you've read.
Does any of this sound like stuff you might want to bring to the RP? I know you said you wanted Ian to be younger, so maybe we could have him be in his teens instead and starting to disassociate himself with Zach (and this could be done regardless of whether Zach is alive or dead, or is still married to Kendall), and finding out that Zach's birth name was Alexander Cambias Jr., and believing Alex Jr. and Zach to be separate people. Kind of similar to how Nelle is first starting to assemble her "support group". In my story, Emma is the one who first tells Ian that his father's name was Alexander Cambias Jr., and she discovers this information indirectly from Ryan (Lavery), as I know Ryan had been involved with Cambias Enterprises (maybe she had been snooping through his files, or something like that).
